Thrilling 'West Side Story' not the same old song and dance
Ted Larsen, Parma Sun Post
March 12, 2009
"Barry DeBois as Tony has a crystal clear tenor and sweet-cored toughness
as the young man struggling to break free of his history. Tony and Maria's
duets are arrestingly beautiful, and together they make you believe that
unselfish, unfettered love can still exist."
On the beat: After 10 years, a "Christmas Carol" CD here
Dan Kane, The Canton Repository
November 16, 2008
"...the CD is an ambitious production recorded with a full orchestra and with
singing by some of the local theater scene's most talented vocalists, among
them Barry DeBois..."
Rep review: Romance from start to finish in Guild musical
Dan Kane, The Canton Repository
September 23, 2008
"A skilled vocalist, resourceful actor and appealing stage presence, Barry
DeBois is well chosen to play Jamie, a hip writer whose career is starting to
take off. At the outset, he conveys the overwhelming joy of new love. By
show's end, after trying to balance a demanding career with an unsupportive
partner, he angrily checks out. In between lies a gamut of shifting emotions."
Plenty to crow about with Players Guilds' 'Peter Pan'
Joseph Ledford, The Budget
May 25, 2008
"Barry DeBois should also be praised for creating a memorable Captain Hook.
He is dastardly, yet hilarious in his efforts to defeat Peter Pan. His deadpan
looks aside to the audience (usually as his bumbling pirate crew exhibit their
mental ineptitude) make for comic gold. He has the swagger of a Captain Jack
Sparrow, but then effectively turns into a sniveling coward when he hears the
clock ticking in the stomach of the crocodile that took his hand and is hungry
for the other."
Players Guild offers touching story with 'Morrie'
Joseph Ledford, The Budget
January 23, 2008
"I had already known [Barry] as a great singer. However, I now know he is
equally talented as a dramatic actor, giving a solid performance as Mitch
Albom. His conversational style was believable and his marvelous interaction
with Rhodes ran the gamut from hilarious to tear-jerkingly sad. At play’s
end, there was not a dry eye in the house, I am sure of it."
Thumbs up for Guild’s 'Morrie'
Dan Kane, The Canton Repository
January 23, 2008
"A notably talented star of local stage musicals, Barry DeBois shows here that
he’s equally skilled as a dramatic actor. As Mitch, a once idealistic guy now
married to his job, he conveys an utterly human mix of conflicting feelings."
Pop version of 'Aida' excels in Massillon
Dan Kane, The Canton Repository
October 16, 2007
"As the manly and idealistic Egyptian captain Radames who becomes Aida's
forbidden love, Barry DeBois has a warm singing voice and acting skills that
convey a kaleidoscope of conflicting loyalties and emotions. His numerous
duets with Ellis are soaring, affecting pop ballads."
Guild's 'Godspell' gets update
Dan Kane, The Canton Repository
March 25, 2006
"Barry DeBois gives an appealingly sincere performance ... he attracts
attention naturally, and his singing is strong and emotive."
Rep review: 'Peter Pan' delights young, and young at heart
Dan Kane, The Canton Repository
May 25, 2008
"Barry DeBois, looking a bit like Johnny Depp in "Pirates of the Caribbean," is
a menacing yet undeniably amusing Captain Hook."
'Beauty and the Beast' a crowd-pleasing hit
Dan Kane, The Canton Repository
May 23, 2009
"Barry DeBois is a hoot as Gaston, the cocky and pompous fool who yearns
to marry Belle, whom he loves slightly less than himself. DeBois commands
the stage with comic energy, frequent strutting and bicep-flexing and
assured singing. He shares plenty of well-timed slapstick with inspired
Justin Woody, who plays Gaston’s adoring yet battered sidekick LeFou."
